adult literacy program at Amityville Public Library supports the efforts
of learners through print material, media items, and tutoring services. |

Governor
Paterson’s 2010-11 Executive Budget continues the approximately $612,000
cut imposed by the 2009-10 Deficit Reduction Plan, AND further reduces
funding to this vital program by an additional $2 million. Combined, the
cuts represent a 38% reduction to this modest program!! |

| Volunteers are recruited, trained, and
supported by LS staff and support services. Literacy Suffolk has
approximately 500 Adults waiting for tutors to help them improve their
reading, writing, and English speaking skills. Two hours a week of
your time can make a difference in the lives of others in their community.
